HOPKINS, Minn. — Families connected to the deadly incident at a Hopkins residence operating as a home daycare are asking for privacy as police continue investigating the deaths of two adults and one juvenile.
In a statement released Aug. 15, the families said they were “completely heartbroken and devastated over this tremendous loss and tragedy.” The statement expressed support for the children and families of Brown Bear Daycare and said those connected to the daycare “were and are so very loved and considered family.”
The message was issued on behalf of the united families of Evie, Kristen, Alice and Nathan. Authorities have not publicly confirmed that those names represent the three people found dead.
Police respond to reported stabbing The Hopkins Police Department said officers responded at approximately 9 a.m. Aug. 12 to a report of a stabbing at a residence operating as a home daycare on the 200 block of Tyler Avenue North.
Officers discovered two adults and one juvenile dead inside the residence, according to the department’s initial public-information release. Several other children were present at the time. Police said they were safely evacuated and were unharmed.
Investigators said there were no outstanding suspects and no continuing threat to the public. The department described the case as a domestic-related homicide.
Police caution against unconfirmed information In a subsequent update, Hopkins police said details surrounding the tragedy had been reported by media outlets even though some of that information had not been released publicly by law enforcement.
The department said the medical examiner had not yet released the names of those involved. Police also said a search warrant filed with the court contains investigative information but emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
“The safety and privacy of the victims and their families is of the utmost importance,” the department said, adding that additional information will be released when authorities determine it is appropriate. Outside-agency response.
