MINNEAPOLIS — Three people are dead and several others are injured following a shooting Wednesday afternoon inside the Loring Towers apartment building near 15 E. Grant Street in downtown Minneapolis.
The Minneapolis Police Department said officers were dispatched at approximately 4:36 p.m. after receiving a report that someone had been shot. The first officers entered the building minutes later and encountered multiple victims while hearing additional gunfire from an upper floor.
As officers moved toward the sound of the gunfire, two Minneapolis police officers were shot and a third officer was injured. All three officers were reported to be in stable condition.
Police said one victim died at the scene and a second victim died after being transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. The suspected shooter also died, bringing the total death toll to three.
Authorities have not publicly identified the victims or the suspected shooter. A motive has not been released.
The shooting prompted a large response from the Minneapolis Police Department, Minneapolis Fire Department, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
An NCN correspondent at the scene observed a significant law-enforcement and emergency response as officers secured the building and investigators collected evidence.
Police asked the public to avoid the Loring Park area while the investigation continues.
