BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. — One child has died and another remains critically injured following a collision involving a vehicle and a minibike Thursday afternoon in Brooklyn Center.
Police responded around 3 p.m. to the intersection of Brooklyn Drive and 63rd Avenue North. Authorities said a vehicle traveling south on Brooklyn Drive collided with a minibike carrying two girls, both younger than 10.
Emergency responders treated the children at the scene before transporting them to a hospital. One of the girls later died from her injuries. The other remained hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities have not publicly released the children’s names or additional identifying information.
Police have not announced what caused the collision or whether speed, impairment or another factor contributed. No arrests or citations had been publicly reported as the investigation continued.
Officials are asking the public to avoid speculating about responsibility while investigators determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
