WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Defense has identified the two American soldiers killed in Jordan during an Iranian ballistic missile and drone attack on Friday.
The fallen service members were identified as First Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas. According to the Pentagon, they are the first U.S. military personnel killed by direct Iranian fire since the opening days of the current conflict.
Feehan served with the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The Army announced he will be posthumously promoted to the rank of captain and awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge. He was also only weeks away from earning a Master of Business Administration from Southern Utah University, which said it will award his degree posthumously.
Gonzales was assigned to the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command in Ansbach, Germany. She graduated from Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas, in 2025 and had recently begun her Army service.
Military officials continue to assess the attack and have not released additional operational details. The deaths underscore the increasing risks facing U.S. forces deployed throughout the Middle East as regional tensions continue to escalate.
The Department of Defense said both soldiers died while helping defend against the incoming missile and drone attack. Further information about the incident is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
