BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — An 8-year-old boy was killed Friday afternoon after being struck by a pickup truck while riding an electric scooter, according to the Brooklyn Park Police Department.
Officers responded to a crash report around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Candlewood Drive and Brunswick Avenue North. According to police, the boy was riding an electric scooter when he was hit by a pickup truck that was pulling a trailer at the time.
Police said the driver of the truck called 911 immediately and remained at the scene. Officials said the driver showed no signs of impairment and has been cooperating with the ongoing investigation.Police said the boy died from his injuries in the crash.
The boy was identified by family members to KSTP-TV as Muad Mohamed. Family members gathered along Candlewood Drive Friday evening. Muad’s 12-year-old brother, Mugesir, told KSTP the family is still processing the loss. The boy’s father, Abdurez Yusuf, a truck driver, also spoke with KSTP through a translator.
Neighbors told KSTP that Muad had been riding toward a nearby park at the time of the crash, less than a block from his home.
