BIDDEFORD, Maine — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has released an official statement to the National Correspondent Network (NCN) regarding the fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday morning during an immigration enforcement operation in Biddeford, Maine.
In response to a media inquiry submitted by NCN, an ICE spokesperson said that at approximately 7:00 a.m. ET on July 13, 2026, ICE personnel were conducting targeted surveillance at the last known address of an individual who, according to the agency, was subject to a final order of removal.
According to ICE, the individual departed the residence in a vehicle, and agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. The agency stated that the vehicle attempted to flee the scene and that, “fearing for public safety,” an ICE officer discharged his firearm.
ICE said the driver was struck during the incident. Emergency medical services responded to the scene, and the individual was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The agency also confirmed that the Biddeford Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) responded to the scene following the shooting. ICE stated that the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General (DHS OIG) has been notified and, consistent with department policy regarding firearm discharges, will investigate the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and authorities have not yet released additional findings regarding the events leading up to the use of force. Officials have indicated that the investigation remains active and that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
