HOUSTON, Texas — Federal authorities are continuing to investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel that occurred during an immigration enforcement operation in Houston. According to the Department of Homeland Security, ICE agents attempted to stop a vehicle as part of an enforcement operation. DHS says Lorenzo Salgado Araujo allegedly attempted to use his vehicle to strike a federal officer, prompting the officer to fire in what the agency described as self-defense.
Family members and their attorney dispute the government’s account, saying Salgado Araujo was a longtime Houston-area construction worker with no criminal convictions who was on his way to work.
