MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating a series of shootings that occurred across North and Northeast Minneapolis during the Fourth of July weekend, leaving one person dead and four others injured. According to the Minneapolis Police Department, officers responded to multiple shooting incidents between the late evening of July 4 and the early morning hours of July 5. The investigations remain active, and no arrests have been announced. In a statement released Sunday, Interim Chief Bill Peterson said: “The Fourth of July is historically our busiest day of the year, and this weekend was no exception. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of our public safety partners, there was a strong and visible police presence throughout the city. Despite these efforts, several shootings occurred, including one tragic homicide. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected. We will not tolerate violence in our community. Our investigators are working diligently to identify everyone responsible and ensure they are held accountable. Increased enforcement and proactive partnerships helped prevent additional harm, including the recovery of numerous illegal firearms over the weekend. 600 Block of Lowry Avenue North 2:26 a.m. | Sunday, July 5 Fourth Precinct officers responded to reports of a shooting and located a man inside the lobby of an apartment building suffering from apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported by ambulance to North Memorial Healthcare. Investigators continue to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. MPD Incident Number: 26-185232

1600 Block of Broadway Street Northeast 2:48 a.m. | Sunday, July 5 Fourth Precinct officers responded to another shooting and located a man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported by ambulance to Hennepin Healthcare. Because of a large crowd gathered at the scene, Minneapolis police requested assistance from the University of Minnesota Police Department, St. Anthony Police Department, and Richfield Police Department to assist with scene security and crowd management. At approximately 3:00 a.m., a 17-year-old boy also arrived at Hennepin Healthcare with apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wounds believed to be connected to the Broadway incident.
