SAINT PETER, Minn. — A Saint Peter police officer remains in stable condition after being shot during a barricaded incident Thursday evening in the 2100 block of Bunker Lane, according to the Saint Peter Police Department.
Authorities said the incident began when police attempted to stop a speeding vehicle in Mankato. The driver allegedly fled northbound on Highway 169 into Saint Peter, leading to a pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The suspect eventually stopped in the Bunker Lane area and entered a residence, resulting in a barricaded situation.
Law enforcement secured the neighborhood and issued a shelter-in-place advisory while negotiators attempted to resolve the situation peacefully. Officials said those efforts were unsuccessful, and multiple shots were fired during the incident. A Saint Peter police officer was struck in the arm and transported to River’s Edge Hospital before being airlifted to a Twin Cities-area hospital for additional treatment. The officer is reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities later entered the residence and located the suspect deceased. The shelter-in-place order was lifted, and officials stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation. Officials confirmed that body-worn cameras were in use during the incident. Additional information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
