AUSTIN, Texas — An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot and injured a man Sunday afternoon, September 20, in North Austin, according to information provided by authorities and reports from the scene.
The incident occurred in the 7000 block of West Anderson Lane near Anderson Square. A large law-enforcement presence was reported in the area, with portions of the area affected by the response. Local reports indicate the injured man was transported to a hospital.
The Austin Police Department (APD) responded to the incident. APD has indicated that an Austin police officer was not involved in the shooting itself. APD maintains an incident-report database that is updated as reports are processed, although information in that database can change as investigations continue.
U.S. Rep. Greg Casar has called for an independent investigation and requested the release of body-camera footage related to the incident. His request comes amid broader scrutiny of federal immigration-enforcement activity in Austin.
