MINNEAPOLIS — Two people were injured in an early-morning shooting Sunday in the Dinkytown area near the University of Minnesota, prompting a significant law-enforcement response and an ongoing investigation.
According to information attributed to the Minneapolis Police Department, Minneapolis officers were assisting University of Minnesota police with several disturbances in the area when gunfire was heard shortly before 3 a.m.
Officers subsequently located two people suffering from suspected gunshot wounds. Both were transported for medical treatment.
Several people were detained during the response, and police reportedly recovered multiple firearms as evidence. One individual was arrested in connection with an alleged weapons violation.
NCN has not independently confirmed that the individual arrested for the weapons offense fired any shots or was responsible for either victim's injuries. No such connection should be assumed based solely on the arrest.
The University of Minnesota also issued emergency notifications during the incident.
An initial university safety notification identified a reported shooting near 5th Street SE and 13th Avenue SE and advised people to avoid the area. A subsequent notification said there continued to be a heavy police presence but that there was no current ongoing threat.
There is a slight discrepancy in publicly reported locations surrounding the incident. Information attributed to MPD has referenced police activity around 4th Street SE and 13th Avenue SE, while the University's notification referenced 5th Street SE and 13th Avenue SE.

NCN also possesses original video recorded in the area around the time of the reported incident. The original footage is being preserved while NCN works to establish precisely what it depicts and whether it is directly connected to the shooting.
NCN will not publicly identify an alleged shooter or connect an arrested individual to the shooting without sufficient verification.
