OTTER TAIL COUNTY, Minn. — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has identified the man and the officer involved in a fatal use-of-force incident during a SWAT standoff early Saturday in Otter Tail County.
Authorities say 39-year-old Christopher Olson of Battle Lake died after being shot by Fergus Falls police officer Matthew Cederberg during a lengthy standoff on September 26.
According to investigators, Olson had barricaded himself inside a home, assaulted a family member, and fired a shotgun at an armored SWAT vehicle. The BCA says Olson later appeared in a doorway armed with the weapon, prompting Officer Cederberg to open fire.
The incident remains under investigation by the BCA, which handles officer-involved shooting investigations in Minnesota. No further details about the underlying assault or the timeline of the standoff have been released.
