OFFICIAL STATEMENT — October 11, 2026 — Minneapolis, Minnesota
The National Correspondent Network announced today the creation of the NCN Federal Enforcement Task Force, effective immediately.
The task force will investigate and document the use of force — especially shootings — by federal officers during immigration enforcement operations in the United States. This includes officers and agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and any other federal agency involved in immigration enforcement.
The task force opens with four cases on its docket: the September 20, 2026 ICE shooting in Austin, Texas; the October 8, 2026 ICE shooting in the Bronx, New York; the federal lawsuits filed by the family of Renee Good; and the shooting of Alex Pretti. Additional cases may be added as they emerge. Findings will be published on ncnmedia.org as each case is verified.
The announcement comes days after NCN's reporting on an ICE operation in the Bronx was corroborated by national outlets, and after the President of the United States made sweeping public accusations about the state of Minnesota, its governor, and its Somali community in a social media post urging residents to "fight back." NCN covered the President's remarks in full, attributing each claim and noting what has and has not been independently verified.
NCN is an independent news organization. It is not a government agency and not law enforcement, and it does not answer to any administration, party, or president. The task force carries no police powers; it conducts journalism — gathering facts, verifying claims, and publishing what can be proven. If NCN gets something wrong, it will correct it publicly.
NCN also acknowledges the public information officers and agencies whose teams have engaged with its reporting, including the U.S. Marshals Service, the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Department of Homeland Security, the University of Minnesota Police Department, the Minneapolis Mayor's Office, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota, the FBI's Minneapolis field office, the Saint Paul Police Department, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, the Minneapolis Police Department, the Burnsville Police Department, the Minnesota State Patrol, the U.S. Secret Service, the U.S. Capitol Police, and the U.S. Park Police.
Members of the public with video, photographs, documents, or firsthand information about any of these cases are encouraged to contact NCN through ncnmedia.org. NCN protects its sources.
