1:15 PM CDT — Omar responds: Rep. Ilhan Omar posted on X that she is 'ok' and called the search 'an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,' adding, 'I will not be silenced.' Her spokesperson, Jacklyn Rogers, said Omar 'has done nothing wrong,' and the office called the search 'an outrageous abuse of power.' House Democratic leaders called the search 'deeply disturbing.' Federal agents were seen carrying boxes from the home. No charges have been announced. NCN's inquiry to Rep. Omar's office is still pending a response.
MINNEAPOLIS — Federal agents searched the Washington, D.C.-area home of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) early Monday morning, Oct. 12, 2026, executing a judicially authorized search warrant as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation, the Department of Justice confirmed.
"Today in the Washington, D.C., area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice," a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News Digital. "This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation," the spokesperson said.
The search began around 6 a.m. ET, according to reporting, and was carried out by agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security.
What the outlets report
Multiple outlets reported the search Monday morning. Reuters reported, citing Fox News Digital, that U.S. authorities conducted a pre-dawn raid on the Washington-area home of the Somali-born congresswoman. The Associated Press also confirmed the search, reporting that people familiar with the matter said it was conducted by HSI agents.
Fox News Digital reported, citing two sources close to the investigation, that the search stems from a criminal fraud investigation into the Minnesota lawmaker's immigration paperwork, which was filled out by her late father when she was a child. The New York Post reported the same account.
Investigation background
White House border czar Tom Homan said in mid-September that Omar was subject to an ongoing "criminal" investigation.
Omar, 44, represents Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, which includes Minneapolis. First elected to the House in 2018, she is known as a member of "The Squad," the group of progressive female lawmakers.
Unproven allegations about Omar's personal history and immigration background have circulated for years. NCN is not repeating those allegations as fact. No charges have been announced in connection with Monday's search.
