MINNEAPOLIS — One adult was killed in a shooting aboard a Metro Transit Green Line train near the Prospect Park station on Saturday night, in what police described as an apparent homicide.

The Minneapolis Police Department has confirmed it is investigating the fatal shooting as a homicide, according to an official MPD release. The case is MPD incident number 26-287335.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2026, officers responded to reports of a shooting on a Green Line train traveling from the Stadium Village station in Minneapolis toward St. Paul, according to Minneapolis police. The train stopped at the Westgate station near University Avenue and Curfew Street.

Metro Transit police officers located an adult with at least one gunshot wound, MPD said. EMS personnel and St. Paul firefighters attempted lifesaving measures, but the individual died at the scene.

The suspect reportedly exited the train shortly after the shooting, according to Minneapolis police. MPD forensic scientists processed the scene, and MPD homicide investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting.

There have been no arrests, MPD said.

Scanner audio from the incident, shared online, captured dispatchers responding to a shooting on train car 234 around 9:07 p.m., with one person down from a gunshot wound. A suspect was described in the dispatch audio as leaving the train eastbound toward University Avenue.

The incident was first flagged to NCN on Saturday evening via the Citizen app, which cited a user on the scene and showed multiple police vehicles at the station platform at 315 29th Ave SE.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to email policetips@minneapolismn.gov or call 612-673-5845, according to Minneapolis police. Anonymous tips can be shared with CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or at CrimeStoppersMN.org.

Update: MPD responds to NCN's inquiry

In response to NCN's media inquiry, Sgt Parten of the Minneapolis Police Department's public information office directed NCN to the department's public information releases page, https://www.minneapolismn.gov/government/departments/police/public-information-releases/, and did not answer NCN's five questions. The reply, sent at 4:55 p.m. CDT on Sunday — five minutes before NCN's 5 p.m. deadline — said in full: "Greetings: You may obtain and sign up to receive MPD releases here. https://www.minneapolismn.gov/government/departments/police/public-information-releases/ Sincerely: Sgt Parten MPD PIO"

NCN had asked MPD to (1) confirm the death and whether the case is being investigated as a homicide; (2) provide the time and precise location of the shooting; (3) say whether any suspect has been identified or any arrests have been made; (4) confirm whether MPD is the lead investigative agency; and (5) share any additional releasable details. The reply did not address any of these questions.

This is a developing story. NCN will update as official information becomes available.
