SAINT PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Paul Police Department has posted a reminder about the city’s youth-curfew rules, urging residents to be aware of late-night restrictions for minors.
The department’s flyer states that youth age 15 and younger must be home by 10 p.m. daily. It says youth ages 16 and 17 must be home by 12 a.m. midnight each day. The post directs people who believe they see a possible violation to call Saint Paul Police at 651-291-1111.
Saint Paul’s curfew policy restricts unaccompanied minors from being in certain public places during late-night and early-morning hours. The policy covers streets, parks, public buildings, places of entertainment and other unsupervised public areas.
The city policy also includes several exceptions. The curfew does not apply to minors accompanied by a parent, guardian or another adult responsible for them. It also does not apply to minors participating in First Amendment-protected activity, completing an emergency errand or legitimate business directed by a parent or guardian, or working in a lawful job.
The official city policy page lists restrictions for minors under 15 from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. and for youth ages 16 and 17 from 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m. The police flyer uses slightly different wording, saying “15 or younger” must be home by 10 p.m. NCN is seeking clarification from Saint Paul Police on the wording and current enforcement of the rule.
The department’s reminder comes as Saint Paul continues to focus on youth safety and late-night public-safety concerns.
