ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) is warning drivers to slow down as law enforcement agencies across the state prepare for increased speed enforcement during the busy summer travel season.

According to DPS, speeding continues to be one of the leading factors in serious and fatal crashes on Minnesota roadways. Officials report that 102 people were killed in speed-related crashes across Minnesota in 2025, while hundreds more suffered serious injuries. Extra enforcement efforts will focus on reducing dangerous driving behaviors and preventing crashes before they occur. (Instagram)

The announcement comes as Minnesota enters what traffic safety officials often refer to as the “100 Deadliest Days” between Memorial Day and Labor Day, a period that historically sees increased travel and a rise in serious traffic crashes. State Patrol troopers and local law enforcement agencies will be conducting additional traffic enforcement operations throughout the summer. (The Mighty 790 KFGO | KFGO)

“Speeding increases both the likelihood of a crash and the severity of injuries when crashes occur,” public safety officials have warned. DPS is encouraging motorists to obey posted speed limits, avoid distractions, buckle up, and drive responsibly. (The Mighty 790 KFGO | KFGO)

Traffic safety remains a major concern statewide. Minnesota recorded 370 traffic fatalities in 2025, though officials noted that figure represented a significant decrease from the previous year. State agencies continue working toward their long-term goal of reducing traffic deaths and serious injuries across Minnesota roadways. (mprnews.org)

This remains an ongoing public safety initiative as enforcement efforts continue throughout the summer travel season.
