WASHINGTON — The U.S. Secret Service says it is reviewing a video aired by Iranian state television that appears to threaten Barron Trump, the 20-year-old son of President Donald Trump.
The approximately three-minute broadcast allegedly claimed that Trump was being monitored and that a $10 million bounty had been offered for his killing. Independent news organizations have not verified the bounty allegation or the other claims presented in the video.
Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring said the agency was aware of the broadcast and “investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees.”
Herring declined to provide additional information, citing concerns about revealing protective-intelligence operations. Associated Press
The National Correspondent Network is not reproducing purported location or security information shown in the video.
Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei subsequently denied reports of a possible plot targeting Trump. Rezaei described the allegations and suggestions of Iranian involvement as false during an interview broadcast by Lebanon’s Al Manar television. Reuters
The conflicting developments leave several important questions unresolved. The Secret Service has confirmed that it is aware of the threatening material, but authorities have not publicly confirmed that an operational assassination plot or genuine bounty exists.
The video emerged amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran and follows other threatening material directed at members of the Trump family.
There have been no publicly announced arrests connected to the video. The Secret Service has not disclosed whether it has changed Barron Trump’s protective measures.
This remains a developing story. NCN will update this report if the Secret Service, White House or other officials release additional verified information.
